"You know we can't do that, she said. "I
can't even ask you to forgive
me."
"You don't have to. I love you enough to do that without being asked."
When she didn't respond he asked her, "Do you love me?"
"Yes," she replied without hesitation.
"How? How can you? And if you do, how can you go running to another
man?"
"How can you love me after what I've done?" she asked. When he didn't
answer, she went on. "I love you both, Jim. I wish I didn't.
It
would make it so much easier."
"I don't think that's possible, loving two men at the same time.....not
the same. Somebody's bound to get the short end of the stick."
"I'm guilty of that, leaving you with the short end of the stick," she
said.
"One of us is leaving, then, is that what you're saying?" Jim asked.
